The Livermore Art Association and Livermore Heritage Guild invite visitors to view changing displays and find unique gifts. Carnegie Building, 2155 3rd St., Livermore. Docents for both organizations are always present to help visitors.

The Lincoln Highway Garage will be open from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on the third Sunday of the month.

2nd & 4th Sundays –1890’s costumed docents of the Ravenswood Progress League lead free tours of the Ravenswood Historic Site: 100+ year-old buildings and some of the 30 acres of grounds. Ravenswood Historic Site, 2647 Arroyo Rd, Livermore. Hours noon to 4:00 pm on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of most months. Call 443-0238 for information. Open and free to the public..

Every 1st SundayFriends of the Livermore Library stages a Book Sale from noon to 4:00 in front of the Old Library, 1000 South Livermore Ave. Books, magazines, and AV at very low prices. Shopping bag sale for $ 2.00 a bag from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. Always a table of free books! For information call 443-8291.

   
The Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center sponsors 'Show & Tell' night at the Bothwell Art Center every second Tuesday of the month where artists show their ongoing work and get advice and suggestions. Red and his wife (co-lyricist Kathy Grammer) have created a treasure trove of music for families and classrooms. Red’s music has a universal appeal that cuts across generations, backgrounds, ethnicity and religions.• $30, $25, $20 ($12 students).

5 MAR Innovation: The Search for New Ideas featuring Bob Borchers, Apple’s Sr. Director of Worldwide Product Marketing for the iPhone, and a 1984 Livermore High School Graduate. Bob Borchers has been part of creating some wonderfully innovative products and technologies with over 15 patents granted or pending. Join Bob as he shares his eclectic and amusing journey in search of innovation. Rae Dorough Speakers Series Performance at 7:30 pm. Tickets $40/$30 Adults, $20/$15 Students 21 & under.

16 MAR – Jil Aigrot, France’s Celebrated Cabaret Songstress, Voice of Academy Award Winner Marion Cotillard in “la Vie en Rose”. This famous French songbird inhabits the role of one of her country’s most celebrated songstresses, Edith Piaf. Previously an actress, Jil Aigrot has recently thrown herself into the performance that brought her to the big screen in the first place—releasing “Words of Love,” a collection which includes Aigrot’s interpretations of nearly 20 of Piaf’s most noteworthy songs. Performance at 8:00 pm. Tickets $55/$40/$35/$30/$12 students.

23 MAR – Aquila Theatre Company, William Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors. Aquila’s production of Shakespeare’s tale of two sets of identical twins whose lives get turned upside down before they are finally put in order relies not only on slapstick comedy, but also on wonderful performances and imaginative staging. The Aquila Theatre has taken on the challenge of mixing American and British actors to do an excellent job with this confusing, funny and touching farce. Performance at 8:00 pm .Tickets $45/$40/$35/$30/$12 students.

25 MAR Keyboard Conversations® with Jeffrey Siegel. Distinguished concert pianist and conductor Jeffrey Siegel takes listeners on an intimate journey through classical music and its masters. Siegel creates a unique learning experience, providing lively commentary about the music before performing each work in its entirety. Inspiring sights in glorious sound! The sonic splendor of Rachmaninoff's Etudes Tableaux” Debussy's colorful and exotic Preludes, and Mussorgsky's astonishing gallery of Pictures at an Exhibition. 27 MAR – Ottmar Liebert, The Stirring Nouveau Flamenco Guitarist. Like his music, Liebert is respectful, creative and open-minded; a thoughtful artist who likes to begin albums with a concept and structure, even if it’s an untraditional one. With his band Luna Negra, Liebert has taken many of his best-loved tunes to incredible new places. His debut album, “Nouveau Flamenco,” sold double-platinum making it the biggest-selling guitar album of all time marking Liebert as one of the most talented, influential and creative guitarists and performers to surface in years. 7 MAR Del Valle Fine Arts presents Alexander Ghindin, Gold Medal winner of the 2007 Cleveland International Piano Competition, playing Pictures from an Exhibition by Mussorgsky and selections by Schubert and Chopin. 29 MAR – Cellist David Finckel & Pianist Wu Han, a husband-wife duo in the top rank of international musicians, are a force in the Bay Area music scene as artistic directors of the acclaimed Music@Menlo chamber series. They will perform an all-Russian program of Rachmaninoff, Prokoviev and Miaskovsky. Performance at 2:00 pm at the Bankhead Theater. 14, 15 MAR Valley Concert Chorale invites you to its Winter Concert, featuring Gioachino Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle. This "Little Solemn Mass" was written in 1863. 14, 15, 20, 21, 22 MARLivermore Valley Opera presents The Marriage of Figaro. Considered Mozart’s greatest social commentary, Marriage of Figaro is a combination of comedy and pathos, magnificent arias, duets, ensembles that reflect deception, anger, discord, and finally, repentance, and reconciliation. Opening 14 MAR at 8:00 pm with a gala lobby event preceding the performance. Other performance times are: 15 MAR at 2:00 pm; 20 MAR at 7:30 pm; 21 MAR at 8:00 pm; 22 MAR at 2:00 pm, with a lecture preceding each show by one hour. 28 MARLivermore-Amador Symphony presents From Spanish Gypsies to Danish Kings at the Bankhead Theater. Featured pieces include: Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte Overture; Khachaturianl’s Flute Concerto, starring Jeffrey Pelletier on flute; Bizet’s delightful and well-known Carmen Suite No.2 with the Las Positas College Orchestra; and Sibelius’s King Christian II. 4 & 5 APR – The Livermore Art Association will hold its Spring Art Show at The Barn at 3131 Pacific Avenue, Livermore. You are invited to came and see the wide variety of paintings and sculpture produced by our local artists. The show is open 10:00 am to 4:00 pm both days, and is free. There is a festive reception Saturday 7:00 – 9:00 pm, with hors d’oeuvres and local wines. The band “Jeff Reed and Friends” will provide lively music. 2-26 APRShakespeare’s Associates presents Copenhagen by Michael Frayn, directed by Virginia Reed. Bothwell Arts Center, West End Theater, 8th and H Streets, Livermore. Science brought two men together; war and politics divide them. German nuclear physicist Werner Heisenberg visits his former mentor, scientist Niels Bohr, in Nazi-occupied Copenhagen and they engage in a secret conversation – or quarrel. Frayn re-imagines that mysterious meeting in Copenhagen, and leaves us to ponder how one can stay true to science, family and friends, one’s country and one’s God when at the forefront of discovery. 8:00 pm Fri and Sat; 2:00 pm Sun (no performance on 12 April – Easter). 4 APR –Del Valle Fine Arts presents The American String Quartet. A resident group at the Aspen Music Festival since 1974 and the Manhattan School of Music since 1984, the American String Quartet has garnered international acclaim for its presentation of the complete quartets of Beethoven, Schubert, Schoenberg, Bartok and Mozart. 5 & ? APR –Pleasanton Community Concert Band will present two events in April. Its Spring concert will be held on 5 April at 2:00 pm at the Amador Theater, 1155 Santa Rita Road, Pleasanton.
