Genealogy begins as an interest,
Becomes a hobby,
Continues as an avocation,
And in its last stage,
IS AN INCURABLE DISEASE.

HISTORY
The AMADOR GENEALOGICAL ASSOCIATION was formed in 1977 as an outgrowth of the Livermore Adult Education Class course in genealogy taught by Ed Pyle. On July 1, 1981, the name of the organization was changed to the LIVERMORE-AMADOR GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY (referred to by the acronym LAGS) to better reflect the localities it served.
PROJECTS
Past projects culminated in the publishing of Livermore Cemeteries, Cemeteries of Pleasanton and Dublin, California, and the Catalog of Pleasanton Genealogical Library, 1994. The first book contains over 5,800 names of people buried in the four Livermore cemeteries: Oak Knoll, Roselawn, St. Michael"s Catholic, and Memory Gardens. The second book, published in January 1990, contains 4,668 entries from three cemeteries: St. Augustine"s Catholic and Memory Gardens in Pleasanton, and the Dublin pioneer cemetery that dates back to 1859, plus records of burial from Graham Mortuary, Pleasanton, from 1904 to 1923. The third publication, of 20 pages, covers holdings of the Gayle Pipes Memorial Library, contributed by LAGS, and genealogical holdings of the Pleasanton library, a branch of the Alameda County Library. The genealogy library catalog is also available on computer diskettes, in either DOS or Mac formats.
On-going projects include the Surname Registry (an index to family names plus dates and places connected with each family that members are researching); Members" Handbook (a 24-page collection of information that helps to get the most out of membership in the Society); coordination of field trips to genealogy libraries; quarterly publication of the ROOTS TRACER; monthly workshop study group meetings at 7:30 P.M. on the third Thursday chaired by Jolene Abrahams and Jeanne Tanghe at the LDS church at 950 Mocho Street in Livermore; and a Computer Interest Group headed by Doug Mumma and supported by George Anderson; maintenance of the Gayle Pipes Memorial Library, the largest collection of genealogical materials in the Valley, located in the Pleasanton Library building at 400 Old Bernal Avenue.
