HISTORY AND PURPOSE
The Ravenswood Historic Site, located on the south side of Livermore, is the former estate of Christopher A. Buckley, a San Francisco politician who purchased the land in 1885. The site consists of several buildings and a vineyard and is managed by the Livermore Recreation and Parks District which offers docent-led tours on the second Sunday of each month.
The Ravenswood Progress League was formed on May 1, 1997 with its initial membership consisting of the docent group. The purpose of the group is: to acquire period furnishings and accessories for the Ravenswood Cottage; to organize and participate in fund raising activities to achieve acquisition of such furniture and accessories; to further restoration of Ravenswood Historic Site; to acquire appropriate items of historical interest for display in Ravenswood Cottage and Carriage Barn; and to support public tours, historical programs, and community and cultural special events at Ravenswood Historic Site.
FUNDRAISING
To raise funds to support its activities, the Ravenswood Progress League holds special events and activities that are carried out by its members. Examples are a "Valentine Tea", an "Ice Cream Social", a "Christmas Event", and gift shop sales. Additional projects will be announced in the future.
